Sharon Haffey "Mirror Lake"

Sharon Haffey “Mirror Lake”

Please join us this weekend to meet our new artist, Sharon Haffey.  Please join us for a reception to meet the artist and view her contemporary landscapes during the Second Saturday Artwalk on May 11th from 5-8 PM.  Sharon is a colorist who paints primarily in acrylics and oils and whose work is intended to convey a playful sense of place rather than a realistic depiction of subject matter.  Through the use of layering, her work has a richness that gives dimension to otherwise simplistic forms. It is the balance of logic and intuition. Inspiration comes primarily from the beauty in nature observed during travel and in her immediate surroundings and each piece is designed to convey positive energy and emotion to the observer.

It was two years ago that Sharon moved to Fernandina but it instantly felt like home.  Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she calls herself a “permanent nomad” and lived in seven states and Spain before settling here.  It was through exposure to the different scenery Haffey encountered in her travels that she developed a keener appreciation for the uniqueness of different environments. After studying art at Ohio State University, she taught, and eventually turned in her grade book for full time work as an artist.  She spent time as an Artist in Residence at the Nantucket School of Art and Design and currently enjoys teaching color workshops at the Island Art Association.  In addition to her paintings, a collection of Sharon’s photography is currently on display.  Look for the gallery’s blue doors between Island Coffee and Go Fish leading to the colorful staircase. Regular hours are Monday-Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm. For more information, call 904.310.9194 or 904.491.7733 – and please visit Sharon’s personal website : www.sharonhaffey.com
